Did You Know? Paper Towels Can Keep You Germ-free How goofy are you willing to look? Because to keep your hands really clean, you have to manage to do your bathroom business without touching anything. No door handles or faucets -- and towel dispensers might as well be called germ-dispensers. To protect yourself from infectious diseases like cold and flu (the majority of which are transmitted by touch), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends drying your hands with paper towels and using the towels as a barrier between you and the faucet, the bathroom door, and other surfaces. How thoroughly you dry your hands is also important. Thats why the CDC recommends paper towels over hand blow-dryers -- as long as you dont touch the dispenser. Studies have shown that people who use paper towels tend to dry their hands more completely than people using other methods. Most give up on the air dryers too soon and wipe their still-damp hands on their clothing, a surefire way to end up with more germs. If youre really concerned about picking up bugs in bathrooms, grab a couple of paper towels -- one to dry your hands with and one to use as a germ shield.
